Christian Beacon Bio

W. Lee Warren, MD is a Neurosurgeon in Auburn, Alabama. In December of 2004, he was called out from his comfortable life in San Antonio, Texas and sent on a journey that changed his life. While nearing the end of his time on active duty in the Air Force, he was assigned to work as a trauma surgeon in a combat hospital on the front lines of the Iraq War.

While it surprised him to be sent to the desert, the real surprise awaited him when he got there: the most significant changes that he went through were not the ones in his surroundings. Over the course of his tour of duty, the changes that mattered most happened inside himself. Warren writes about his desert encounter with God and shows that sometimes God must take you out of your comfort zone to get your attention.

While allowing a glimpse into the fascinating, heartbreaking and exciting day-to-day workings of a tent hospital in the heart of the war, this story goes deeper. Warren introduces us to people beyond the surface, and honestly shares the emotion and fear that goes along with homesickness, rocket attacks, and being forced to care for “bad guys.” As a metaphor for life, his story describes more than one man’s trip to the desert; it teaches us all what happens when God calls us out and demands us to change.

Dr. Warren has authored over twenty scientific publications, holds a United States Patent, and has given invited lectures in Neurosurgery in seven states and two foreign countries. He is now in private practice in Auburn, Alabama, and is completing three books about his experiences in Iraq. He is a guitar player, singer/songwriter, and Worship Leader.
